Take
a Moment
I wanted to take a
moment to relay a very special story of my recent experience at the
MidWest Truck-In at Rolling Hills Campground, Penfield IL
I was a guest of Paul
'Chooie' Walsh and his club, Ace of Spade Van Club, Chicago IL on
Memorial Day weekend.
On the 2-1/2 hour
trip to the campground Chooie's '66 Chevy Sportvan broke down on the
side of the highway, 78 miles from the eVANt. Within minutes, 3
vanners from Wisconsin were there offering mechanical help and
ultimately an AAA (free) flatbed tow all the way to the camp ground.
Thank you so much Monica Gross, Scott and Jeff.
Various vanners
including Derek and John worked with Chooie on his van the entire
weekend and thought the problem was finally fixed for the return
trip to Chicago.
On the return trip,
less than an hour out, Chooie's van died again. Ace of Spade
Van Club members stayed with us, offering mechanical help, enough to
get us to the next exit. Several members of the club
drove all the way back to Chicago, 1-1/2 hours, dropped their travel
trailers and came back with a tow-bar. They hooked Chooie's van
up and towed us all the way back again to Chicago and got Chooie's
van into his garage. They ensured we were safe then went
on to their own homes again. The entire ordeal took over 5
hours but they never considered leaving us behind.
I am so honored to
have met these folks. They truly personify the Brotherhood of
Vanning.
I have also sent them
a note but wanted them to be recognized for the powerful impression
they made on me, a 25 year veteran of vanning.
I don't want to
preach but this is what vanning is all about. Forget the
differences we have and be thankful we belong to such a caring
group. Each of us needs to be reminded to take the time to
take care of our Brotherhood and it will take care of you.
Safe trucking to all.

We Lost "PJ"
Atkison on August 6th
It
is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Dave "PJ"
Atkison. "PJ was
an early member of Coastal Vans of Daytona, and a charter member of Red
Eye
Truckers Ltd.. He passed on Thursday August 6th . PJ had the qualities
that we
prize in our Vanning friends. If you were his friend you knew he would always
be
there, he was someone you could count on. I was proud too have Vanned with
him and
rode a lot of miles next to him and his old Harley.
I
ask even those who didn't know him to lift a toast to him
and take a minute to
remember the Vanners we have lost. Take another minute to think
about your old
Vanning friends, give them a holler and say 'hi' . I
really wish I could have seen
PJ one more time, don't make that mistake. Life is too short.

WE LOST ONE OF OUR FRIENDS IN THE UK - KEV WALTON

We were all sad here in the UK with the loss of a great and probably the best vanner
this side of the pond, Kev Walton. A visitor to Florida on many occations (almost
anually)his favourite place being Treasure Island and the Keys event. Many vanners
from all over the UK attended his untimely funeral last friday at his home village at
Westcott. He leaves wife Mel and so many of us in disbelief. Kev introduced me to
vanning in the 70's. I'll always remember the smile and fun loving type of guy he was.
Always with a beer in his hand, CHEERS KEV,keep the beer on ice till we meet again.

OOOOOOOOP !
Thats right OOP & Jo here.
WOW! It has been a long time but we are back and ready to truck. Jo and I are extremely
excited to get back to it as we have been out for such a long time. I think it has been about
6 years. If not because of all the out of country filming I do then because Lightning has
been in restoration for the last 3 years. But we have finished up everything and we are
ready to see all of you again. Lightning is like new and Jo and I went to the Nats. It was
so nice to see so many of you there. Like a big family reunion. The weather was great,
the grounds were nice with enough electric and water for all and the vanners were as
crazy as ever.
I believe someone said there were 14 vans from Florida and boy did Florida
freak everyone out with the midnight snack of Gator and tenderloin. As for the actual van
show there were so many vans in the show that they ran out of room in the big lot and had
about 20 of us park in the game field. Lightning along with Shogun were last in the line up.
Lightning was moved up to full custom class and won first in her class.
The last night we had rain but that was not a problem as we partied till we saw 2 of everything.
Sunday came and everyone headed out for home or on to other adventures. Jo and I headed
for Uniontown, PA which is where I grew up. We spent time visiting friends and after a week
there we headed for home. It will be a pleasure to see all of you again at future truck-ins.
If you would like to see many pictures of the Nats then check out this link on the web as it has
many pictures and Florida is in many of the pics.
http://www.dropjawmag.com/2009/truckinnats/Main.htm
I will also be putting together a video on you tube with the tag 37th van nats in a week or so, so
check it out when you have time.
Love you all and see you soon.
Keep on Truckin

GOOD
NEWS!!

Boot was able to get into the subdivision this morning and the house
is still
standing!!!
The fire burned within 40 feet of
the house!
Thanks to all who posted on
vannin.com for Boot and Jan to read. This was
a great showing of
support for our fellow Vanners!
I think I will still send a
Wedding card although Boot has asked that no one
send anything.
Looks like the intervention of
prayer has worked again!

Wanted to get this message out to our
Vanning Community that "Boot" from Myrtle Beach was
hit with the fires that have burned over 15,000 acres
of South Carolina. SpaceMan was able to get in contact with
him and they are all all right, but have lost their house and
all their personal property, except for Boot's van. The gang
on Vannin.com are putting together an effort to help them with
items they will be needing in the near future, but after
talking with them we have found out that Boot and Jan were
planning to get married next weekend.
If anyone would like to help give
them some support that they need right now they can help by
making their special day next weekend one to remember. Here is
an address you can mail cards and gifts to to help out.
Jan & Boot
PO Box 1753
North Myrtle Beach, SC 29598
Thanks for your support and vanning
spirit!

My name is Alan Cook, and I am the secretary of Inland Vans Berdoo, a So. Cal. club and the oldest club to still hold regular meetings. I am a charter member, one of the original 2%ers and I drive a 1966 Chevy flatwindow van called the "Dirty Ol Van". I would like to thank your secretary for giving us a voice in your website. We are still trying to get the word out that our club has been honored with being inducted into the Route 66 Cruisin Hall of Fame - the first and only "car" (shudder) club to even be considered.
I would welcome your input, comments, etc.to be put on our forums section of our website "www.inlandvansberdoo.com" then click on Inland chatter on the home
page. Check out all the sections, we have vanners from all over writing in, and welcome any true vanner - 2% or otherwise. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!

Tony King passed away, after a long
illness. A memorial service was held on Friday, August 24, 2007 at
the Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. A remembrance
of Tony was held at Jonathan's Pub, across the street, after the
service. Uncle Tony was a member of Central Florida Vans, and a past
President of the Florida Van Council. |

|
|
From the memorial service booklet:
Why cry for a soul set free
Miss me a little - but not too long
Remember the love we once shared
Miss me, but let me go
For this journey that we all must take
And each must go alone
It's all part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me, but let me go.
We will always remember you Dad.

She is so beautiful!!! Well the reason I'm e-mailing you is to get in touch
with Steve Capps. He was so good to me growing up and I would like to talk
to him. So much time has passed, lots to talk about. I would really
appreciate it.
Thank You,
Michelle Coleman (Garey)
P.S. I belonged to Rhondajue vans! (Long time ago)
