Another newsletter article, and another great Truckin! Hats off to Foreplay for a great eVANt. The Band was great and even with the price of gas we still had a great turnout. A few people we didn’t see, but maybe the next one. June 14th is the next council meeting at Boggy Creek. There is a possibility of having another eVANt at Beverly Beach September 19th & 20th more details to follow. We will be discussing renting part of a barn for the Nats in Illinois. On a side note Vanners are a family, as in every family there are disagreements and issues don't let these stop you from doing what you love to do. If you love Vannin' participate as much as you can, petty issues can be settled without animosity. I love you all, and Vannin'. So do as much as you can; encourage others to come and play with us. It's easy to have fun but it's hard to describe to those who have never done it. Keep On Truckin' and I hope to see you soon.

This issue's cover picture doesn't feature just one van but a Classic Van Show at Fiesta Key about 1978, I think. Anyone looking at that scene that don't believe that Florida was, and is, a great place for Vanning is an idiot or not a Vanner. I cannot think of any scene that shows how good we have had it. This show had over 50 Vans and took all day to judge, just ask Carol!

Van Judge Observations

Foreplay’s fine eVANt had a very interesting Van Show. We were treated to 2 full custom vans and our usual selection of street vans in various stages of street customizing.

I thank everyone who took the trouble to put their van in the show. It gave everybody a chance to think and talk vans (a good Thing!) while enjoying classic Van Show weather.

The van Judges Steve Capps, Darren, from England and Dan did a good job, I thank them for giving their time and effort.

I admit that we didn’t have anything unusual to judge them for like the interesting ideas that Joe had in the Keys, but I forgot (so sue me). I promise to think of something weird for next time.

Keep thinking about Vans and what you can do to keep them from looking like a soccer mom or a plumber’s van. Do something to work towards a street custom. It’s how we can show other van owners that we have something they may be interested in with “this Vanning thing” we do.

                     Keep On Vanning……..Buffalo Bob

Florida Van Council Minutes

Minutes of the March 15, 2008 meeting at Sidewinder’s house near White Springs are as follows:

Cale called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the January 19, 2008 meeting were read and approved.

There were 6 clubs present and 2 Excused Absences (out of 14 clubs total) during roll call.

Linard gave the Treasurer's report.  He noted that we made a small amount on the CofC event, even after the $400 donation to the next host council for that event.

FVC NEWSLETTER UPDATE:

Agnes was not present.  Judith said this past newsletter was great!  She noted that the newsletter has a lot more substance when we all put in articles.  Deadline for the next issue is May 23

MEETING DATES FOR REMAINDER OF 2008:

Date

Location

August 9

November 22

COUNCIL OF COUNCILS MEETING:

It was noted that the CofC 2008 meeting was a great success.  There were many good comments, including the comment that the band, “Crash Rocket”, was great.  Everyone chipped in.  Judith thanked all who showed their vans, and said it was neat to have the vans being shown for two days on the promenade.

Cari noted that her business friends in Cocoa Beach thanked her profusely.  They enjoyed having the vanners and also having the vanners support their business.

Judith said that next years Council of Councils in Las Vegas should be excellent.  Make it a vacation.  There are many things to do in Vegas, as well as the surrounding area.  Many historic sites are within 15 – 20 miles of downtown.

NEW BUSINESS:

Cale noted that we lost Coastal’s event for this year.  They are definitely not going to put on an event.  He asked if the FVC wanted to put on an event this year.  He said he would stop at Ben’s Hitching Post outside Ocala and see who owns the place now.  They might be interested in having an event at their campground.  He also noted that the FVC could do something at Beverly Beach in June.  Maybe the FVC could host an event if mid-August or mid-September.

Cari said we should try to get another canoe trip together.

Cale said he would not run for FVC President next year.  His schedule will not permit it.

VAN-IN UPDATES:

Foreplay           May 2 – 4, 2008 at Beverly Beach Camptown. Magoo noted that they would have a band on Friday and Saturday nights.  This will be a 10th anniversary event.  Joe Madonia will be handling t-shirts for the event.  $50 pre-reg.  $55 at the gate.  Travel trailers and motor homes $30 extra.  Magoo noted that, if you tell the campground that you are with the vanners, extra days would be about $25 per day, NOT on the water.  On the water sites will run about $30 per day.

Broward           Linard noted that Broward is still trying to get something going in the Keys.

Cari made a motion to adjourn and the meeting was concluded.

 Respectfully submitted,

Scribe John

Secretary

  Hello Fellow Vanners,

As I have often been told “say what you’re really feeling”.  Well I guess I’m going to piss off somebody this time, but things need to be said.

In spite of Foreplay putting on a great eVANt, with great weather, Some people didn’t bother to show up, for reasons that are just plain stupid (give me a break I’m trying to be nice!)  Those of us who love Vanning and realize that the friends that we have made and the good times and foods we share are worth the things asked of us as Vanners. For Some people to cop an attitude and not show up is inexcusable. Maybe if they were to get out old Vanning photos they would remember just why they became VANNER’S in the first place and get their shit together and quit acting like idiots. (okay, so much for being nice)

Look people, FL Vanning is in trouble, I’m hopeful that who ever we can get to help will be able to plan something for Sept. We would be happy to help put something on.

It would really be nice if a long time club, like the one in Daytona got their shit together and planned to do an eVANt. Time for them to act like adults and Vanners (boy I really didn’t think I would ever use Vanner and Adult in the same sentence unless it was Adult XXX) As I said we would help.

I wish Broward Chapter luck with attempting a Key’s Truckin but it may be too expensive for most Vanners to attend.

We really need an eVANt at the end of summer, let’s figure out how to do it. Vanning is worth saving in Florida.

Fellow Vanners,

ForePlay's 10th Anniversary Party was another Great eVANt.  Even Mother Nature shared sunny weather with us.  Everyone shared in a good time with a band both nights and party with new and old friends.
This year brought three more vanners from out of state that had never attended an FVC event before.  Furthest distance traveled was Tina from Springfield, IL.  Driving was Jeff from Raleigh, NC and Cloudy & Cherie from Easley, SC.  These vanners are members of the Southeast Van Council and were joined by Blue Lemon & Peanut and Mike & Rachel from Peach State, also part of the growing SEVC; Hosts of GSVR IV in October at Cherokee, NC.
It is very unfortunate that many Vanners traveled thousands of combined miles to support this eVANt, but many of the 'locals' in a 50-mile distance did NOT SUPPORT their Fellow Vanners!   I've been Vanning for 36 years and NEVER have seen such a poor turn out by so many living so close..........What is Your Problem?  Can't blame such a short distance on gas prices!  It is VERY EMBARRASING to see Vanners travel so far and ask, " Where is everyone? "

Hi all,

It was good to see a lot of you at Beverly Beach.  I probably will not see you all again until fall unless you are going to the Nat’s.

I had a good time at Beverly Beach.   If you were there you probably met my grandson Colin and his girlfriend Christina.  It was the first time either of them came to a truck-in as adult.  They had a good time and are looking forward to coming to the next eVANt.

Colin came to my place the week before Beverly Beach and we put an interior in his van.  I couldn’t get him to show it, perhaps he will when it’s done.  He got a great buy on seats, 99 cents on e-bay.  The guy said he was going to frame the dollar since he learned a lot from the sale.

Mothers Day Weekend found me in OH at Vans on the Run’s 30th annual Spring Back.  It rained a lot but gobs of fun was had by all.  There was a large turn out 122 vans came despite the rain.  We lucked out and it cleared up for awhile on Friday and most of Saturday.  The band was good and the games were fun.  Got to see people I usually only see at Nat’s.  Jr. and Glenda showed up.  Seems he needed to be a pole bearer for an old neighbor.  So he snuck in with Crispy.  While I was giving Crispy a hard time about bringing a trailer (he has written several articles in the NOVC news) Jr. and Glenda were hiding in the back of the van.

My next eVANt will be in Canada and then on to the Nat’s and who knows after that.
